Still looking at Kazusa, Zero continued. “I may have taken the long way around, but I finally found where I belong. A unique place where I have friends, and where I can just be myself.”
Zero’s voice was calm, and the low timbre conveyed how content and happy he was with his current life. Keiki and Kariya seemed to sense this as well.
“I see… I understand,” Keiki nodded. His expression was slightly regretful but also seemed to carry a sense of relief at his brother’s happiness—an intricate blend of conflicting emotions.
"Even though I decided not to pursue your whereabouts, for the past seven years, I couldn’t stop worrying about you. Knowing that you're happy now, I can finally be at ease," Keiki said.
Zero broke eye contact with Kazusa and turned back to Keiki, apologising, “I’m sorry for not meeting your expectations.”
“There’s no need to apologise. From now on, leave the family matters to me and live as you please,” Keiki replied, his expression clearer and more relaxed, now free of any lingering resentment.
“But there’s one condition: when you’re in trouble, rely on us—your brothers.”
“...Nii-san.”
“We’ll always be here for you.”
“That’s right. We’re blood brothers, after all,” Kariya added. Zero, overwhelmed with emotion, looked down, then wrapped his arms around his brothers’ shoulders, and they embraced him back.
After seven years, the missing piece returned, restoring their golden triangle.
“I’m happy for them,” Honjou, who had been watching them, murmured. Though he often spoke gruffly and was hard to read, his words seemed sincere.
“…Yes, I’m glad too.”
After a long journey, Zero had finally found his way to ‘RARE’. It was truly a relief that he’d found a unique place to belong.
And from now on, Keiki and Kariya would surely be another foundation for him.
Seeing the brothers at ease, relaxed in a way that only family could be, and bridging the seven-year gap, Kazusa etched this sight deeply into his mind, his vision beginning to blur.

When Kazusa and the others stepped out of the meeting room, Inukai darted from the waiting group in the hallway and hurried over to Zero.
“Here’s the signed declaration,” Inukai said, handing over the document he’d apparently written while waiting. After checking its contents, Zero replied, “I’ll hold onto this.” Inukai looked visibly relieved, bowed, and quickly excused himself. He was likely more than chastened by this whole incident. After the public humiliation of having to apologise on his knees, he probably wouldn’t dare approach another stray Omega or set foot in Deep Downtown again.
“So, how will everyone be getting home?” the deputy chief asked, rubbing his hands together.
Keiki’s secretary replied, “We have a car waiting.”
“I came in my own car, too,” answered Squad Commander Onizuka. Kariya then added, “I’ll drive Honjou-san home,” without addressing anyone in particular.
“We’ll hail a taxi,” Zero said, referring to himself, Kazusa, Hawk, and Crow—the ‘RARE’ group of four.
“Understood. In that case, I’ll escort you to the carport on the first floor,” said the deputy chief, somehow brimming with enthusiasm, as he led the group to the elevator hall. One by one, they entered the elevator, and when the deputy chief tried to join them at the last moment, a loud buzzer went off, indicating they were over the weight limit.
“Oh, I’ll take the stairs, then,” the deputy chief said, stepping out of the elevator, his face shining with sweat as he waved cheerfully.
“I’ll see you all on the first floor,” he said as the doors closed.
“What was that all about? He’s trying way too hard to make up for his mistakes,” Honjou muttered in an exasperated tone, sparking a ripple of laughter among those in the elevator.
Zero, Kazusa, Keiki, Hawk, Crow, and Honjou exited on the first floor, while Onizuka, Kariya, and the secretary continued down to the basement parking lot.
As the group crossed the lobby and stepped through the automatic doors at the entrance, they unexpectedly ran into four officers from the Third Squad, holding convenience store bags. It looked like the young detectives had just returned from a snack run. Spotting Zero and Hawk among the group, one of the detectives shouted, “Hey! What are you two doing here?”
"Who let them out of the holding cell!?"
Another detective raised his voice. Then Honjou, standing beside Kazusa, said, “It was Squad Commander Onizuka.” The mention of their direct superior’s name from Honjou’s mouth made all four of them widen their eyes in shock.
“Squad Commander Onizuka?”
“Wasn’t he supposed to have left already...?”
“A lot happened while you guys were in your strategy meeting. By the way, Inukai withdrew his complaint. So these two that you threw in the holding cell without the squad commander’s permission are now free to go.”
Upon hearing that, the head of Third Squad clicked his tongue in frustration.
“All that effort for nothing…”
“Not just wasted effort! You went and made things worse!”
The four turned at the shouting, exclaiming, “Deputy Chief!?” “What?” “Huh?” “Why?”
Having run down the stairs in a hurry, the deputy chief’s uniform was soaked with sweat, and steam seemed to be rising from his head.
“Because of you, I had to endure embarrassment I didn’t need!”
The four watched, dumbfounded, as their hefty superior continued to fume and rant.
“Useless fools! Come! You’re all writing formal apologies!”
Fuming, the deputy chief marched off with the four in tow. The scene was ironic; only a few hours ago, these detectives had forcibly escorted Zero and Hawk along, yet now they themselves were being led away like suspects by their bulky superior.
As they exited, a car rose up from the underground parking lot, with Onizuka, Kariya, and the secretary in that order. The power window of the lead vehicle, which had stopped at the carport, lowered, and Onizuka looked out.
“The guys from Third Squad? The deputy chief just took them.”
Hearing Honjou’s report, Onizuka nodded. “Understood. I’ll also personally discipline my subordinates tomorrow. Well then, everyone, thank you for your hard work.”
“Thank you for your hard work.”
The power window went up, and Onizuka’s car drove away. A silver two-seater slid into the now vacant space, and Kariya stepped out of the driver’s seat.
“Keiki-nii, Reiki-nii, Toomine-sensei, everyone, thank you for your hard work.”

*GLOSSARY:
It’s common for the Japanese to say “thank you for your hard work” after they’re done with a meeting or work. Roughly, it’s like blending “thanks, I appreciate your effort” + “see you later” + “we’re done here” all into one.
