“I can’t stand myself…!” From Zero’s clenched fist hitting his thigh, Kazusa could feel the intense anger and disappointment he harboured toward himself for endangering the cast at the Lounge.

Even though Zero possessed remarkable looks, intellect, and courage, he wasn’t flawless.

But no matter how much regret might overwhelm him at times, he would never give up.

He would always overcome his setbacks and emerge larger, stronger.

For everyone living here, he would struggle and push forward.

Kazusa wants to support Zero like that...

(This is… my wish)

(My… new will to live.)

As he savoured this quietly rising feeling, Kazusa spoke again.

“Since Lycaon is still young, I think it’s entirely possible for him to learn how to control his emotions and start over. Given some time, he may come to regret the mistakes he’s made. He might still be in an agitated state now, so why don’t we wait for him to calm down and go look for him together?”

Zero looked surprised by Kazusa’s suggestion.

“Like myself and the other residents, he has nowhere else to go. Just like a wild animal with human scent, who can’t return to its pack. Lycaon, who has experienced human kindness and warmth, likely won’t fit back into the old slum life as he once did…”

“…But…”

Kazusa pressed on, seeing Zero hesitate.

“If, by any chance, something were to happen to him, you would certainly blame yourself terribly. I don’t want you to feel the same regret as you did with your mother.”

At the mention of his mother, Zero’s eyes of mismatched colours trembled. Looking into those beautiful gem-like eyes, Kazusa repeated himself; “Let’s go bring him back.”

“Are you truly okay with that?” Zero, his expression serious, asked for confirmation. “You’ve always been concerned about Lycaon. But he became jealous of your popularity and bore a grudge. Even so, would you still forgive him and accept him?”

“People make mistakes time and again, but I believe what’s human about us is the ability to start over each time.”

Kazusa worried he might come across as self-righteous. But upon saying this, he saw the tension ease from Zero’s face.

“You really are… a soft-hearted person.”

“Sorry about that.”

“Don’t apologise.”

Zero smiled as he replied, his eyes narrowing slightly, as if looking at something bright.

“That’s probably why everyone here likes you.”

Hearing the word ‘like’ from Zero’s mouth, Kazusa’s heart skipped a beat.

(And you? How do you feel about me?)

Wondering silently to himself, Kazusa opened the cap of a water bottle, pushed a pill from its blister pack, and swallowed it along with the question rising in his throat.

With that, he felt at ease about his heat.

Next, he pressed an emergency contraceptive into his hand.

The first time they were together, when Kazusa took the emergency contraceptive, Zero had looked somewhat hurt and said, “Even if you were to get pregnant, I’m prepared to take responsibility.”

Back then, not knowing Zero well, Kazusa had found the statement shallow and felt irritated.

―――Please don’t talk about taking responsibility so lightly.

This time, though he hadn’t said anything, Zero had prepared the emergency contraceptive for him, showing he remembered their exchange from before.

(The truth is…)

Now, Kazusa wanted to bear Zero’s child.

Of course, there was a chance it wouldn’t happen. But if it did, he wanted to give birth to one.

He wanted to give birth to the child of the person he loved.

Surprised by this feeling that had arisen so naturally, he also realised that, at this very moment, he was able to truly accept himself as an Omega for the first time.

But he couldn’t say it out loud.

If he were to bear Zero’s child, it would disrupt the harmony within ‘RARE’.

Zero was the owner and leader of everyone living here.

No matter how passionately they might come together for a moment… he couldn’t keep Zero all to himself.

“…This is the second time.”

Hearing Kazusa’s murmur, Zero asked, “Second time?”

“This is the second time you’ve helped calm my heat.”

Out of responsibility, he had eased Kazusa’s heat twice.

Kazusa felt guilty for dragging Zero into it. But thanks to the power of the heat pheromones, he was able to receive Zero’s ‘warmth’ in his body. That alone was enough.

“Thank you.” As Kazusa expressed his gratitude once more, Zero’s face took on a complex expression. He then called Kazusa’s name in a serious tone.

“Kazusa, we need to talk.”

Seeing the rare intensity in Zero’s gaze, Kazusa sensed something unusual and couldn’t help but hold his breath.

“I…-”

Knock, knock, knock.

In that instant, a knock sounded from the main room through the open door, causing the two of them to flinch.

“Who is it?”

“Excuse me, Owner.”

The voice beyond the entryway was Serval’s. It was lower and more tense than his usual cheerful tone.

“The guest from earlier has returned… and he says he needs to speak with you.”

“I’ll go down to the first floor and hear him out. You take a shower.” As Zero swiftly put on his clothes and prepared to leave the bedroom, Kazusa, unable to contain himself, called out from the bed.

“Zero!”

Their eyes met when Zero turned back. Perhaps Kazusa looked worried.

“It’s okay.”

Zero smiled reassuringly.

“I’m used to dealing with this kind of trouble.”

“…Okay…”

He might be used to it, but Kazusa couldn’t shake his unease.

He wanted to follow Zero. But in his current state, he couldn’t appear in front of others.

After Zero left the room with Serval and headed downstairs, Kazusa dashed into the bathroom. He hurriedly cleaned out any trace of Zero from inside his body, washed away any evidence of their encounter, dried his hair with a blow dryer, and put on the scattered clothes from the bedroom to make himself presentable before running out of Zero’s room.

Only once he was in the elevator could he take a moment to catch his breath and focus on his thoughts.

(Why did Inukai-san come back?)

It was unlikely he came to apologise. Forcing a neck bite was his fault. But an Alpha with such high pride wouldn’t willingly come to apologise after being humiliated.

That seemed highly improbable.

So it was likely a complaint, then.

If it was a complaint, Zero, as he had said, was used to handling them and would know how to manage the situation well. Even as he tried to reassure himself, Kazusa couldn’t shake his unease as he arrived on the first floor.

*Translator’s Note: Why is Kazusa so pure hearted??? Don’t get me wrong, if I met a person like this in real life, I’ll like him too. But I’ll be like super annoyed as well. Like… Yo. Where’s your survival instinct, man? -K

Kazusa: People make mistakes time and again, but I believe what’s human about us is the ability to start over each time.

Me: Nope. 🫤. Helllll nooo…
