He got his first regular customer, and not just any customer—a VIP member. The kind that the cast often refer to as a ‘big spender’.
Up until now, even when Kazusa was on shift as part of the cast, he mostly assisted in handling Serval’s customers. Unlike the other cast members, he wasn’t the type who could just sit and make himself easy on the eyes, nor was he particularly gifted in conversation. Aware of this, he made sure to act proactively at any table he was assigned to support.
Before anyone asked, he would prepare drinks, provide hand towels, replace ashtrays, and stack used dishes neatly at the table’s edge. He would guide customers who were unsteady on their feet to the powder room, waiting outside discreetly to escort them back safely. When closing time approached, he’d anticipate their needs by heading to the cloakroom, readying coats and bags—a vital part of the job.
While seated, he kept a low profile, careful not to overshadow the main cast but still enhancing the atmosphere where needed. If the customer was in the mood to talk, he’d focus on listening.
Once, he even took care of a customer who had overdrunk and wasn’t feeling well. It was luck that his previous experience as a doctor came in handy. If not, the case could have escalated to acute alcohol poisoning.
Kazusa simply wanted his guests to fully enjoy the two and a half hours they’d paid so much for, free of stress—and he ended up receiving his first direct request in return.
The customer who came on Kazusa's first booked appointment day was the man who had overdrunk a few days before.
“Ah, from that time…”
“Thanks for taking care of me back then. You were a lifesaver.”
The man, in his late forties, thanked him, to which Kazusa replied, “Oh, it was nothing. I’m just glad nothing serious happened.”
The man had likely booked him out of gratitude for that night. Kazusa hadn’t yet made any personal sales, so he was happy to finally contribute to the lounge. He spent an uninterrupted two and a half hours alone with his first requested customer, grateful to this sincere man.
According to the business card the man handed him, his name was Inukai Youichirou, a professor of classical Japanese literature in a well-known private university’s literature department and a researcher in the field.
(A university professor... That makes sense.)
Looking at him anew, he noticed Inukai’s noble appearance, enhanced by a well-kept moustache that gave him an intellectual look. He seemed quite stylish; his attire was a three-piece suit that appeared custom-made, classic straight-tip shoes, an antique hand-wound watch, and finally, a fedora perched on his slicked-back hair. The man had a clear fondness for retro aesthetics, presenting a coherent image with a strong personal touch. The platinum ring on his left ring finger indicated he was married.
The man—Inukai—talked a lot. About his research, the books he’d published, the paper he was currently writing, and his university lectures.
Though they were from different fields, science and the humanities, Kazusa found Inukai’s stories fascinating. He’d always liked books and had read much of the classic literature up until high school. However, upon entering medical school, he’d been too busy to keep up with reading for pleasure. Listening to Inukai rekindled his interest, and he even asked questions about points he’d been curious about before, sharing his opinions cautiously. This surprised Inukai, who said, “You’re the first cast member who’s been able to keep up with my conversation.”
“I see there are intelligent Omegas, too.”
Kazusa felt slightly irritated by the discriminatory remark. But as Inukai was a customer, he could only respond with a vague smile.
"Actually, I’m an Alpha. Not that I come from any distinguished family, though."
Despite his modest demeanour, his choice to openly reveal that he was an Alpha hinted at his self-assertiveness and high pride.
“Oh, I see. This is actually my first time speaking directly with an Alpha.”
Kazusa was only stating the truth. But Inukai seemed pleased, his ego stroked by the comment.
Though Kazusa initially thought the booking was just a one-time thank-you gesture, Inukai requested him again the next day—and the day after that.
On the fourth consecutive day, Inukai expressed a desire to become his regular.
Regular customers receive priority in booking but must pay a premium fee, and once they commit to a specific cast member, they’re not allowed to switch. The high barrier involved means that even prominent cast members like Serval and Lycaon had taken three months to secure their first regular.
“Landing a high-paying customer in less than a month? That’s incredible!”
Serval was thrilled. His guidance, accompanying Kazusa on shopping trips and offering invaluable advice on attire, had certainly helped Kazusa secure this regular customer.
When Kazusa thanked him, Serval laughed and said, “Well, it just means that you’ve got something special.”
“Honestly, you’re truly beautiful right now, and you’re considerate too. I’d even put you down as a ‘Smart Beauty’ on the list!”
It was clear he was exaggerating, but Kazusa was genuinely happy to have a regular customer. Not only would his income increase, but this meant stable revenue for the lounge as well.
Moreover, Kazusa had learned that Inukai was one of only ten VIP members among a hundred. To achieve VIP status, customers must meet certain criteria for visit frequency and spending, which required significant financial resources.
“Congrats on landing a VIP regular!”
“Isn’t that a new record?”
“Nice job, Lemur!”
“You’ve been working hard, and you’ve been shining recently. It makes sense.”
Other cast members congratulated him one after another. The group from the slums ignored him, but he hadn’t expected much from them anyway.
“I really owe it to all of you for guiding me as your junior. Thank you.”
Kazusa couldn’t be more grateful.
He wanted to repay Zero for giving him a new place to belong after he lost everything, and to show his appreciation to the colleagues who welcomed him.
With this thought in mind, Kazusa resolved to give even more attentive service to Inukai.
Not only did he make sure to familiarise himself with all of Inukai’s works, but he also expressed interest in studying classical Japanese literature. Inukai recommended books that could serve as study material. The two exchanged their favourite works and enthusiastically discussed why they loved them.
Since Inukai wasn’t particularly strong with alcohol, most of their first two and a half hours as a regular were spent discussing literature.
“This was the most enjoyable time I’ve ever had,” Inukai said, his expression excited, as Kazusa escorted him to the main street where he could catch a taxi.
“I had a great time too,” Kazusa replied with a smile.
