"Take them away!"
"Hold on. Where are you taking them?"
Amane demanded, and the chief, almost snapping, shouted back, "To the detention centre!"
"The detention centre??"
Unable to hold back any longer at the chief's harsh declaration, Kazusa shouted, "Please wait!" Drawing everyone’s attention, but there was no time to be hesitant.
"The lounge 'NIGHT SAFARI' maintains a high level of hygiene and is operated in a healthy manner. The cast members are well-managed. There is no way drug trafficking could be happening there. I can vouch for that as someone who lives with them and is also a current cast member. Until a month ago, I was an orthopaedic surgeon at Central National Downtown East General Hospital."
"A former doctor?"
"If any of the cast members were using drugs, I would definitely know."
"Even if you say that..."
The chief sneered.
"If you can't trust my words, then go ahead and give the cast members a physical examination. You can search the living quarters, shared spaces, and even the underground lounge thoroughly."
Kazusa, refusing to back down, looked around at the detectives.
"I'll go anywhere myself if necessary. I'll comply with questioning and physical exams, and I’ll do whatever it takes to prove our innocence. So, I beg you, please conduct a proper investigation based on scientific evidence, not preconceived notions."
Despite Kazusa's desperate plea, Zero didn't even raise an eyebrow. Instead, he dismissed it with a cold tone.
"He's a newcomer who just arrived at the lounge and knows nothing. He's not even a stray Omega."
"…Zero!"
"So there's no need to listen to him. Let’s go."
Zero began to walk away, followed by Hawk, while the detectives from Third Squad trailed behind them.
"…"
Frozen in shock at Zero's outright rejection, Kazusa stood there, watching them leave in a daze.
Amane spoke up, "Are you really okay with this?"
That question broke through Kazusa's frozen thoughts, making him start to consider why Zero was so adamantly rejecting them.
It was likely that Zero feared the situation escalating and drawing public attention to himself and the residents of ‘RARE’.
Stray Omegas are officially ‘non-existent’. Their very existence is irregular. If they draw too much attention, they will become targets for backlash, and the shelter known as ‘RARE’ may be forced to disband.
Rather than let it come to that, Zero was prepared to sacrifice himself and accept unjust treatment.
Even if his decision was the right one and his actions were to protect everyone—
(Is it really okay to just be protected?)
Is it acceptable for the shelter to exist only because of the sacrifices of Zero and Hawk?
Can we really call that happiness?
Clenching one hand tightly into a fist, Kazusa adjusted his slipping glasses with his other hand.
"It's not okay."
"That's the spirit," Amane grinned, saying, "Let's go after them," and dashed out of the room. Kazusa and Crow followed him.
Upon exiting the room, Kazusa spotted Zero and his group down the hallway. At the same time, he noticed a man walking towards them from the other end, carrying two lidded cups made of kraft paper.
"Kariya," Amane murmured. The man Amane had called ‘Kariya’ was strikingly handsome, even from a distance. He was as tall as Zero, with a well-proportioned figure that suggested a perfect nine-head ratio, all wrapped in a well-tailored three-piece suit. He appeared to be in his early twenties, with lustrous chestnut-brown hair that evoked the image of a well-bred thoroughbred.
The ‘thoroughbred’ came to a sudden halt. In sync, Zero also stopped, followed by Hawk and the four detectives behind them, inevitably closing the distance between them and Kazusa's group.
As they caught up, the handsome man and Zero stood in the middle of the hallway, staring silently at each other. It was as if their extraordinary auras clashed, emitting a special kind of light that made the space around them seem to glow.
"…"
The ‘thoroughbred’ initially seemed perplexed. He furrowed his brows and stared at Zero as if seeing something impossible. Gradually, his bluish-grey eyes widened in realisation.
As they opened to their fullest extent, he spoke; "Reiki Nii-san!!"
"Kouki?" Zero's voice followed, slightly delayed.
Holding his breath, Kazusa watched the surreal confrontation between the two stunning figures and shouted in his heart:
―――Nii-san!?

*GLOSSARY:
Nii-san, short for Onii-san, means older brother. Yup, Kouki and Reiki are half brothers. Zero’s real name is Shutou Reiki. ‘Rei’ [零] in Japanese means ‘Zero’. You see the connection to the first and second volumes now, eh?
