The day after he vanished from the front entrance of the D-East Police Station, he returned to 'RARE' as if nothing had happened, going back to his usual “silent,” “expressionless,” “unmoving” self. He still doesn’t engage with customers in the lounge and is pretty much a fixture, but since it’s widely known that he was instrumental in rescuing Zero, no one complains. Since Zero, the owner, knows Crow’s true identity and keeps him around, Kazusa has no intention of saying anything either. He doesn't know how long Crow will stay at ‘RARE’, but he’ll keep a quiet watch over him until then.

While waiting for Zero in the entrance hall, Kazusa’s thoughts wandered to those two who weren’t present. Then the person he’d been waiting for appeared from the office in the back. A golden aura surrounded him, his black long coat swirling behind him as he approached confidently.

(Just walking over like that and looking so cool? Impressive.)

As Kazusa watched in awe, Zero quickly closed the distance, gliding smoothly through the holographic animals around him. When he stood right beside Kazusa and their eyes met, he gave a small smile on one side of his face, making Kazusa’s heart skip a beat.

Just hours earlier—the vivid memory of their passionate embrace almost came flooding back to Kazusa’s mind, but he cleared his throat.

“Good morning, Owner. Everyone’s here and ready.”

Nodding, Zero turned to address the cast and staff.

All conversations about fashion, celebrities, viral videos, and recommended manga came to an abrupt halt.

“Good morning.”

“Good morning,” they responded in unison, the twenty people on shift tonight greeting their boss.

“There are a total of eight guests for the first part—three of whom will be in the VIP room. There will be six guests in the second part, making fourteen in total. Anything to add, Manager?”

Kazusa, standing beside Zero, pushed up his glasses with his middle finger.

“As for the guests in the VIP room, they’ll be arriving with the wife and daughter. Since it’s the daughter’s 20th birthday, they’ve ordered a surprise birthday cake. At the right moment, the floor staff will bring the cake to the room, and we’ll have any available cast or staff join to sing a birthday song together to liven things up. Thank you in advance.”

“Got it.”

“Understood.”

After receiving the cast’s acknowledgment, Kazusa said, “That’s all from me,” and Zero ended the meeting with his usual closing words.

“Tonight, let’s give our guests a taste of something out of the ordinary with courteous and sincere service. That’s all. Dismissed.”

With that, the cast and staff dispersed. Kazusa also went around making final checks before the opening, and soon it was five minutes to six.

He moved to the elevator area to wait for the guests’ arrival. Then, unexpectedly, Zero appeared beside him.

(Did we have such an important VIP in the first group that the owner would personally greet them?)

As Kazusa hurried to review his memory, Zero, still facing forward, muttered under his breath.

“After tonight’s work, we’ll pick up where we left off this afternoon.”

“………”

Right now, Kazusa is in the midst of his third mating cycle in life, spending day and night in physical union with his lover. With each fuck, he discovers new sides of himself and feels his body changing, while surprisingly, each time manages to surpass the last as the ‘best sex’. As a result, no matter how often they fuck, it never feels like enough.

From last night through to morning, they were connected without pause, and still unsatisfied, they even fuck twice more during the day. He still feels a lingering sense of Zero inside him… but when he hears those words, it makes something deep within him ache irresistibly again…

(… Wait, did he come all this way just to say that?)

“Alright?”

Zero, a little forceful, pressed for confirmation. Kazusa, unable to suppress the heat rising to his face, gave a small nod. Just then, the arrival chime sounded, and the elevator doors smoothly opened. Out stepped a couple in their early fifties, accompanied by a young woman who seemed to be their daughter—the VIP room guests.

Switching to his professional mode immediately, Kazusa gave a polite bow, saying, “Welcome.”

Zero greeted them in his low, rich voice, and the young woman, who had just turned twenty, blushed. It seemed she found him a bit too captivating for someone raised in sheltered surroundings. Upon closer look, Kazusa noticed her mother was also gazing at Zero in fascination. If their excitement peaked right here, it would put the rest of the cast to shame.

(As expected, I think it’s best for the Owner to avoid personally greeting guests.)

Resolving this silently, Kazusa, along with his charmingly irresistible lover—Zero—spoke the customary welcome phrase in unison to greet their guests.

“Welcome to ‘NIGHT SAFARI’!”

*Author’s Postscript:

Hello, everyone, I’m Iwamoto Kaoru. Thank you for picking up ‘Resonance Passion: Omegaverse’. This work is the latest in the Resonance series, following ‘Resonance Heat’ and ‘Resonance Lust’. Since the protagonist has shifted to a new character, it can be enjoyed as a standalone read. For those who start with this book and want to dive deeper into the Resonance world, please consider supporting the previous volumes as well. I’d be grateful.

Since Resonance Heat and Resonance Lust were both full of events, they turned out to be quite long. So I was asked to make this one less voluminous and keep the story relatively straightforward. Back then, I confidently submitted the plot, assuring, “This time it’ll be fine!” …The result, however, was a two-part release. I honestly wish I could go back and ask my past self why I thought it would work…

Interestingly, the lounge’s name, ‘NIGHT SAFARI’, originated from the title of a short piece I wrote for a doujinshi (fan fiction) ages ago. The protagonists of that story were also a doctor and a mysterious man of the night. While they only share that basic setup, the story here is completely different. For those who happen to own that fan fiction, it might be fun to compare them!

This time, the illustrations were once again done by Hasukawa Ai-sensei. Although the book unexpectedly turned into a two-part release, which may have inconvenienced some, personally, I felt a sense of accomplishment with Hasukawa-sensei’s two colour illustrations! And this time, there are two versions of the protagonist Kazusa—as a beta and an omega. As for the other protagonist, Zero, I’d mentally cast Hasukawa-sensei’s art to bring him to life, envisioning a character both mysterious and dazzling, full of wild charm. And it’s as if Hasukawa-sensei read my mind, bringing ‘the enigmatic man of the night’ to life perfectly. Thank you so much, Hasukawa-sensei, I love you! (Haha❤️)

Currently, the Resonance series is also being adapted into a manga, ‘Alpha’s Bride: Resonance Romance Omegaverse’ illustrated by Yukimura Kanae-sensei, which is serialised digitally. This story follows Keiki, the eldest son of the Shutou family, and Riku, a high schooler raised as an omega despite being an alpha. As it approaches its climax, every update brings shouts of excitement from readers, which makes me as the original author very happy. It’s not too late to catch up. So for those interested in joining the fun, we’re eagerly waiting for you!

Finally, thank you once again for reading. I hope to see you in my next work. Until then, take care and be well.

*Translator’s Note: Don’t ask. I didn’t read the manga and I won’t be translating manga. I’m not very interested in that kind of storyline to be honest anyway. Thanks for staying with me till the end. Will be translating a 3P relationship story next (link will only work once I posted a chapter. You guys gotta wait). Enjoy! -K

Maybe he shouldn’t think of a super-elite Alpha as ‘endearing’, but he couldn’t help it.

“It was my mother,” Kazusa answered as he turned around. Zero nodded, saying, “She’s been calling a lot lately, hasn’t she?”

“Yes, she has… She might have held back before, thinking I was too busy.”

In truth, during his days as a doctor, Kazusa neither had the emotional capacity nor the time to entertain his mother’s small talk. He’d always been on edge, which must have come across to her as well.

Although his parents’ dreams had been cut short, Kazusa now wished to do what he could as an ordinary son from here on.

As he was thinking this, Zero suddenly said, “I know. Let’s go greet your parents sometime.”

“What?”

“Since your family is my family too.”

Kazusa’s surprise must have shown on his face, as Zero raised an eyebrow and asked, “Don’t you want to?”

“It’s not that I don’t… It’s just… it’s really rural, and people tend to get a little too close for comfort. I thought it might be overwhelming.”

“Oh, is that all?” Zero shrugged.

“No place could be more dangerous than the depths of downtown, and no one could be more quirky than the residents here. So, no problem at all.”

“...That’s true.”

Given its name, the Deep Downtown was indeed the ‘deepest’ part of the city, filled with peculiar and shady characters. For Zero, who handled people with all sorts of quirks, the curious stares of rural folk might indeed feel as mild as a breeze.

Kazusa nodded, finding Zero’s oddly convincing response amusing, and a chuckle escaped him.

Whenever his own negative tendencies caused him to hesitate or feel lost, Zero would always forge ahead, easily overcoming obstacles and extending a hand to pull Kazusa forward with strength.

When they were together, there was nothing to fear. There was no wall they couldn’t overcome as a pair.

Kazusa felt profoundly happy to have found someone who made him feel that way.

“What are you laughing about?”

“Oh, it’s nothing.”

“Come on, spill it.”

Zero suddenly hugged him from behind. With Zero’s arms wrapped tightly around him, Kazusa felt a warm breath against his ear, which made him scrunch up his neck from the tickling sensation.

“I said it’s nothing. Let go.”

“No way. I won’t let go until you tell me.”

Zero teased him with a sweet voice, swaying him slightly.

“Really, you’re the one being difficult here. Are you a child or something? Just let—”

“Ahh! Zero and Kazusa are getting all lovey-dovey!”

They both turned to see Misa pointing at them.

“Misa!”

Gazelle hurried over, covering his daughter’s eyes from behind.

“Don’t look!”

“….”

Gazelle was so serious that Zero and Kazusa couldn’t help but glance at each other—and then they both started laughing.

“Ahaha… s-sorry…”

“Haha… apologies…”

Before long, Gazelle started laughing along with them.

“No, no, I’m the one who’s sorry for interrupting… hahaha.”

“Why are you laughing? I can’t see anything!”

Misa put her hands on her hips and pouted, which made her look so adorable that the laughter echoing through the kitchen didn’t stop for quite some time.

***

And once again, night fell over Deep Downtown.

With only thirty minutes until the lounge ‘Night Safari’ opened, the cast for the night shift began descending to the basement level.

There was Giraffe, a tall, model-like woman with a big-sister vibe; Zebra, whose sleek bobbed black hair was accented with stylish silver highlights; Newt, a shy redhead with a mushroom cut; Leopard, a platinum blonde with a mischievous buzz cut; and Lynx, with hazel asymmetrical hair and a “tsundere” personality.

Kazusa, in his signature look of an untucked white shirt, tapered black pants, and silver-rimmed glasses, was waiting in the entrance hall when a young man with blonde hair streaked with pink highlights raised a hand to greet him.

“Morning, Sensei!”

“…Oops, I mean manager.”

“Good morning, Serval.”

Serval still held the number one spot in popularity among the cast.

The current number two was Lycaon, who had recently returned. He had once lost the spot to Lynx, but his recent efforts had helped him reclaim it.

The day after the incident with Inukai, Zero, Hawk, and Kazusa went to the slums to search for Lycaon.

And just as Zero had guessed, they found Lycaon in the basement of an abandoned building. Sitting in a dim, damp corner of the basement, Lycaon sat with his knees pulled to his chest as Zero stood before him. Slowly, Lycaon looked up, his once-confident demeanour completely gone.

―――I came to get you.

Lycaon, looking as though he couldn’t believe it, muttered in disbelief.

―――But… I betrayed your trust. Twice.

―――”Third time’s a charm” or “three strikes and you’re out”? Which one it’ll be is up to you. To be honest, it wasn’t my choice to come pick you up. I was persuaded by Lemur.

―――By Lemur?

With narrow eyes, he looked up at Kazusa, who was standing just behind Zero.

―――Even though you resented him and he suffered because of it, Lemur never abandoned you. In fact, he urged me to hurry and bring you back as soon as possible. So, the reason I’m giving you this third chance is because of Lemur. If you understand, then don’t make us deal with any more of your trouble. Get up.

With that, Zero turned his back and started walking away. When Kazusa prompted, “Come on, let’s go,” Lycaon, still looking down, stood up. Though it was clear from his trembling shoulders that he was crying, neither Kazusa nor Hawk said a word or offered a handkerchief to preserve Lycaon’s last bit of pride.

After this series of events, Lycaon returned to 'RARE' and, as before, was still working alongside Fossa and Jackal. However, he seemed somewhat less prickly compared to before, and he’s even started interacting with other cast members, albeit gradually.

As a manager, Kazusa keeps a discreet eye on Lycaon, but so far, he hasn't sensed any trouble.

Additionally, it’s become clear that Crow, another person he’s keeping an eye on, is an informant.

Although it hadn’t been that long since then, it felt like something from the distant past.

Since that day they became bonded, everything surrounding Zero and Kazusa had changed dramatically.

First Change:

Zero made the ‘bonded mate’ announcement in front of all the residents of ‘RARE’.

Zero had consulted Kazusa beforehand, reasoning that it would be hard to keep it hidden in a communal living environment. Instead of letting the news gradually spread and becoming an open secret, they decided it was better to just announce it.

However, all the residents were passionate fans of Zero. The night before the announcement, Kazusa couldn’t sleep, worried about everyone’s reactions. Yet, when they made the announcement:

"I knew it! I had a feeling!"

"Congratulations, Lemur!"

"You guys are perfect for each other!"

"I’d be okay with Lemur having the Owner."

The responses were overwhelmingly positive, which was a relief.

Serval teased Kazusa, saying, "I knew it! It was totally obvious. Owner’s way too into Sensei." Kazusa was embarrassed, but later Serval even took the lead in organising a small celebration for them.

Since the announcement, they no longer had to worry about people’s reactions, and though Kazusa’s things were still in Room 601, he was practically living in Zero’s room.

Second Change:

Since reuniting at the D-East Station, Zero had started staying in touch with his brothers.

Though their busy brother Keiki’s visit hadn’t materialised, Kouki and Honjou visited ‘RARE’ as promised, and they had a great time together.

Honjou, in particular, seemed interested in ‘RARE’. He enthusiastically toured the shared spaces and the lounge, bombarding Zero with questions (which reminded Kazusa of himself a few months ago).

When they looked into the community floor, a few residents were gathered there, including Misa and her mother Gazelle. The residents were all relaxing, chatting happily around Misa, and nibbling on homemade baked goods. Watching this scene, Honjou’s face softened as he murmured, "…This is nice." Kazusa vividly remembered that relaxed profile.

Honjou seemed completely at ease in that moment, and Kouki’s gaze was gentle and supportive, as if the two had a strong bond even in their private lives.

Meanwhile, the relationship with Zero’s Alpha-supremacist father and stepmother remained severed, and Kazusa didn’t think reconciliation was likely, given the history. Even so, reconnecting with his brothers was a significant step forward.

As Kazusa reflected on these changes while sipping his herbal tea, his smartphone began buzzing in his back pocket. He checked the screen—it was a call from his mother.

"Excuse me, I need to take this," he said, apologising to Zero and Gazelle before moving to the adjacent kitchen to answer.

"Hello, Mom? What’s up?"

"No particular reason; I just wondered how you were doing."

Third Change:

Half a month ago, Kazusa had gathered his courage to call his parents and explain what had happened.

He tried to put it as gently as possible, but his mother started crying halfway through, and his father remained silent until the end.

Kazusa’s parents had worked tirelessly, from early morning to late at night, to afford the considerable cost of making their eldest son a doctor. Kazusa being a doctor had been a point of pride for them.

Then, suddenly, they found out not only that he was an Omega but also that his medical licence had been revoked. It couldn’t have been easy for them to accept.

That night, his mother’s cries echoed in his mind, making it hard to fall asleep. But Zero held him close, stroking his back and head until he managed to sleep a little by dawn.

The day after coming out to his parents, Kazusa received a message from his younger brother in the countryside.

[I heard the news. Bro, turns out you were a latent Omega all along? That’s wild!]

[Sorry for all the trouble.]

[What’s funny is Dad, who ignored me all this time, suddenly sucking up to me.]

[He’s probably genuinely shocked. If possible, try to go easy on him.]

[Sure. But when I come over, you better treat me to something nice!]

[Of course, anything you want.]

[Barbecue and Sushi]

[Got it]

Kazusa could sense that his younger brother felt many things deep down, but his casual messages were a great relief.

Three days later, his mother reached out again. Surprisingly, she had already adjusted her perspective, saying, “Being an Omega means there’s a possibility of having children, right?”

“Well… yes…”

"Honestly, I always wanted a daughter. So, while it’s unfortunate about your medical licence... I’m kind of happy about this.”

“Really…? I didn’t know that.”

“If you ever have a child, let me know. I’ll come help out.”

“Don’t you think you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself?”

“But you already have a mate, don’t you?”

“Yeah… well…”

“Then there’s a chance it could happen, right? You’re newlyweds, after all.”

“N-newlyweds…! Okay, I get it. I’ll tell you if that happens!”

Kazusa’s back tingled, and his face flushed so hot that he couldn’t keep the conversation going any longer.

To think he’d be having such ‘girl talk’ with his mother—something he never would have imagined just three months ago.

His father still hadn’t reached out, but Kazusa figured it was something only time could heal.

Since that day, his mother had been calling regularly, although each time, it was mostly just casual chit-chat.

Today, after yet another lighthearted conversation, his mother ended with her recent catchphrase, “Next time, bring your boyfriend home,” and he responded distantly, thinking (Boyfriend…) and said, “Sure, someday,” before ending the call.

Kazusa knew that if someone like Zero—who had such a dazzling, urban aura—were to show up in his rural hometown, it would cause an uproar, with all the relatives gathering and probably bombarding them with questions like a background check. Considering all that, returning home together wasn’t something he could do so easily.

“Phew…”

As he sighed with his phone still in his hand, a voice called from right behind him, “Who was that?” Without turning, Kazusa knew from the pleasant, deep voice that it was Zero.

"When it comes to you, I’m nothing but a bundle of possessiveness."

Zero had declared this openly, and it was true. It seemed like he cared about Kazusa’s every move and would come looking for him if he so much as left Zero’s sight.

(Even that part of him is endearing…)
